Culture Shock 2010: Community and Resistance Tour

Media@成人VR视频 joins forces with (QPIRG) 成人VR视频, radio CKUT and other community organizations in presenting the Community and Resistance Tour, two events that are part of Culture Shock 2010. The first event, a panel discussion featuring journalist and community organizer Jordan Flaherty, will be on Tuesday, 5 October 2010 at 6 p.m.at Chancellor Day Hall, 3644 Peel Street, Moot Court; the second, a book launch of Jordan Flaherty's new book, multimedia presentation and concert, will be on Wednesday, 6 October 2010 at 7 p.m. at 79 Jean Talon West. The Community and Resistance Tour will focus on New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, as well as the case of the Jenna Six, the treatment of six black teenagers accused of attacking a white fellow-student. Culture Shock is an annual event that explores myths surrounding immigrants, refugees, indigenous people and communities of color through dialogue and outreach.

Journalists and community organizers Jordan Flaherty, Jesse Muhammad, Victoria Law, and a Montreal community organizer (TBA) will give a panel discussion moderated by Professor Gada Mahrouse of Concordia University. Jordan Flaherty's new book, FLOODLINES: Community and Resistance from Katrina to the Jenna Six (Haymarket Press: 2010) will be celebrated by a book launch at , as well as a multimedia presentation and concert featuring The Fat Tuesday Jazz Bank and members of the Kalmunity Vibe Collective.
