The Parasitic | 3rd Annual Art History & Communication Studies Graduate Conference

Thursday, April 26, 2012, Arts W-215, 9:15 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

From the Indiscernible last year, the theme of the third Art History and Communication Studies Graduate Conference now shifts to the Parasitic. The one-day symposium will explore the concept of the parasite in both its negative connotations as an invader and purveyor of disease, and its positive influence as a potential driving force in the balance of power.

The inter-disciplinary nature of the conference will bring together graduate and doctoral presentations on the parasitic in the fields of visual arts, pop culture, media and communication, and local and global relations, among others.

A keynote lecture entitled, 鈥淏efriending the Parasite: Love and Anger in Queer & Indigenous Performance鈥 will be delivered by Dr. Margot Francis, Assistant Professor of Women鈥檚 Studies and Sociology at Brock University from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by Media@成人VR视频 and is free and open to the public. An evening reception will follow in Arts 160, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
