Steven Salaita: 鈥淯ncivil Rites: Academic Freedom and the Corporate University鈥

On Friday, March 13, 2015, Professor Steven Salaita will be participating in two talks at 成人VR视频, part of the Beatty Memorial Fund Lecture Series. They are both free and open to the public. He will address the Montreal community about the implications of his firing from a tenured professorship in the United States, on free speech, academic freedom and speaking out about Palestine.

Having resigned his tenured position at another US university, Professor Salaita was 鈥渄e-hired鈥 by the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) last fall, allegedly because of 鈥渦ncivility鈥 in his Tweets in solidarity with Palestinians during the 2014 Israeli attack on Gaza. Recently, he filed a landmark lawsuit against the university and its board of trustees.

On Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10 a.m., he will participate in an open dialogue with local students, journalists and media activists about 鈥淢edia, Free Speech and the Question of Palestine.鈥 This is in room 017, Morrice Hall, 3485 McTavish Street.

In the evening, he will give a public lecture entitled 鈥淯ncivil Rites: Academic Freedom and the Corporate University.鈥

The Lecture will take place on Friday, March 13, 2014, at 6 p.m. at Redpath Hall (doors open at 5.30 p.m.), 成人VR视频, 3461 McTavish Street, Montr茅al (enter 成人VR视频 through McTavish gates, venue is directly on the right).
