They were copied as much in intricate books of hour s owned by the English nobility and in manuscripts of theological scholars hip produced by monks\, as in account books owned by merchants and in prim ers used by mothers and school masters to instruct the youth in basic text ual and devotional literacy. These tracts of pastoral instruction not only shaped the religious and civic imagination of fifteenth-century people bu t also their practices\, as they explained basic Christian doctrines\, sac raments and duties. This lecture explores how religious literature functio ned as initiator of community-based care–– neighbourliness––by promoting s ocial connections and responsibility in light of death.\n DTSTART:20260924T200000Z DTEND:20260924T220000Z LOCATION:Birks Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2A7\, 3520 rue Universit y SUMMARY:Stevenson Chair in Religion and Literature Inaugural Lecture URL:/arts/channels/event/stevenson-chair-religion-and- literature-inaugural-lecture-373293 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
