Work Your BA 2016: Explore, Engage, Lead!

Monday, January 18, 2016toFriday, January 29, 2016

厂辞鈥"What are you going to do after you graduate?!"

The question is no doubt familiar, and potentially anxiety-provoking, to any student or soon-to-be Arts graduate, and it can be a challenging one to answer. The possibilities are many, and career paths and transitions often make much more sense in hindsight then they do when you are right in the midst of them. Learning about the routes that others have followed can often be helpful when you're thinking about your own options, so if you're looking for ideas, information, inspiration, motivation and advice, come to Work Your BA organized by 成人VR视频's Career Planning Service (CaPS) and the Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS).

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

CaPS and AUS are organizing a buffet of events to feed your career curiosity from the NGO/Non Profit Fair to career panel discussions to a great roundtable event to help you meet and learn from professionals in a wide variety of fields. In particular this year, many of the events revolve around the theme of making a difference and the multiple ways to make a positive impact while making a living.

Socially Impactful Careers:听 Effective Altruists 成人VR视频
January 21st, 6:00 pm 鈥 7:00听pm听
Leacock 232

Effective Altruists at 成人VR视频 is just one chapter of a global social movement which applies evidence and reason to determine the most effective ways to improve the world. Here at 成人VR视频, Effective Altruists are challenging the way that our university approaches philanthropy by emphasizing the equal value of all human life and, by extension, the moral imperative of doing our best to maximize philanthropic outcomes.

Most people think that working in the non-profit sector straight out of university is the best way to make a difference while paying the bills. As it turns out, there are plenty of good reasons to think this is not the case. On January 21st we'll be hearing from William MacAskill, Associate Professor in Philosophy at Oxford and cofounder of 80,000 Hours, a non-profit that conducts research and provides advice on how you can best make a difference through your career. After viewing William's TEDx talk, Effective Altruists at 成人VR视频 will be holding an open conversation in order to evaluate what we as conscientious citizens ought to be doing with our professional lives. Join us as we try to figure out the best ways to improve the world, and meet 成人VR视频 students who are taking alternative professional routes to making a difference!
