Pitfalls in statistics
Pitfalls in statistics
Workshop series
Computational and Data Systems Initiative
In this workshop you will see examples of statistical/scientific errors of various types. The session will begin with errors produced by chance variation, with probabilities we think we can control. But more important are errors produced by faulty reasoning, overuse of our computing power and over-confidence in what we can learn from big data.
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to better appreciate
听听听听 > what factors produce 'standard' (statistical) errors
听听听听 > how modern 'data-analysis' practices can produce even more serious errors
听听听听 > that the probability of such errors can be larger with larger amounts of data
Pre-requisites? None. Participants are encouraged to read some of the materials provided .
Date: Monday, January 10, 2022
Time: 13:00 to 15:00
