To celebrateÌýMontreal’s 375thÌýanniversary, theÌýCentre for Interdisciplinary Research on MontrealÌýwanted to examine the mechanisms and processes that have made it possible, in the history of the city, to maintain a relative social peace. The CIRM is now proud to present its first publication (in French),ÌýVivre ensemble à Montréal. Épreuves et convivialités. This book contains twenty-four textsÌýwhich reveals the many uses that Montrealers make of public places sometimes known, sometimes less. Essays and case studies alternate with testimonies rooted in everyday experiences, exploring convivialityÌýand tensions that weave links between spaces and citizens. They discuss places of sociability, how we develop a sense of belonging to the city and the ways we can live together.
