Violinist Teresa Wang wins Peter Mendell Award
We would like to congratulate violinist Teresa Wang (BMus 鈥17), who was recently awarded the 2018 Peter Mendell Award. This award includes a $2500 scholarship and a private recital opportunity. Peter Mendell, a prominent lawyer at Davies Ward Philips & Vineberg as well as an avid cellist, created the award in 2005 to recognize and foster the development of musical talent amongst full-time string students pursuing studies in classical music programs at Quebec universities and conservatories.
Upon receiving the award, Teresa expressed her gratitude towards Mendell: 鈥淚 am humbled to see my name amongst the list of laureates of the Peter Mendell award, and so grateful to Peter and Jeunesses Musicales Canada for this wonderful performance opportunity.鈥
Wang spent many of her formative years studying at the prestigious Young Artists Performance Academy at Toronto鈥檚 Royal Conservatory of Music from 2007 to 2014. The training she received there made her the versatile musician she is today, enjoying performing in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. She has been concertmaster for numerous orchestras, including the 成人VR视频 Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and has performed as a soloist with the Academy Chamber Orchestra and the Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra. As an avid chamber musician, Teresa has collaborated with artists such as Martin Beaver, Henrik Brendstrup, St茅phane Lemelin, Douglas McNabney, John Novacek, Eric Nowlin, Scott St. John, and Axel Strauss.
Teresa completed a Bachelor鈥檚 degree at the Schulich School of Music with Outstanding Achievement in Violin, and is currently pursuing a Master of Music, studying with Axel Strauss.
