Bravo! Prof. Hong Guo, CAP-CRM Prize in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics; Prof. Guy Moore, CAP Herzberg Medal
Kudos to Professor Hong Guo, James 成人VR视频 Chair
and Professor of Physics in the Physics Department! He has been
selected as the recipient of the 2009 CAP-CRM Prize in
Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, 鈥渇or his pioneering
work on the ab initio theory of transport in nanoscale systems,
including the theory of circuits in which current flows through
molecules.鈥 The prize, awarded annually by the Canadian Association
of Physicists (CAP) and the Centre de recherches math茅matiques
(CRM), is awarded in recognition of exceptional achievements in
theoretical and mathematical physics. Prof. Guo has built a unique
research program focusing on two main areas: electronic transport
theory in mesoscopic and nanoscopic systems and materials physics
of nanotechnology. The impact of his work is international with not
only scientific value but also direct relevance to practical
application.
Congratulations as well to Professor Guy Moore,
also of the Physics Department, who will receive the 2009
Herzberg Medal from the Canadian Association of Physicists
鈥渇or the broad impact of his contributions to theoretical particle
physics, such as the bulk and collective behaviour of quantum
chromodynamics under extreme conditions of temperature and
density.鈥 The CAP Herzberg Medal is awarded annually for
outstanding achievement in any field of research by a physicist
under the age of 40.聽 Prof. Moore is a theoretical particle
and nuclear physicist who conducts research on the frontiers of
particle physics (research into the basic elements of matter and
the forces acting on them) and what went on very early in the
history of the universe. He also conducts research in cosmology on
the origin of matter in the Universe. Prof. Moore is the co-author,
along with Cliff Burgess, of The Standard Model: A Primer
(2007) published by Cambridge University Press.
Professors Guo and Moore will receive their prizes at the CAP Congress banquet to be held in Moncton on June 9, 2009.
