Call for nominations for the second "IAP Conference of Young Scientists"

Published: 6 March 2009

Dear Fellow,

We are very pleased to inform you that following the success of the pilot venture between the InterAcademy Panel (IAP) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2008, an agreement has been reached with the World Economic Forum to organize the second "IAP Conference of Young Scientists" in conjunction with the WEF's Annual Meeting of the New Champions (also known as the Summer Davos). IAP and WEF are currently discussing the participation of 60 outstanding young scientists in the event, to be integrated into the WEF Meeting which will involve around 1500 participants. The Meeting is organized on the basis of round table discussions with parallel sessions.

As a member of IAP, RSC: The Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada (Royal Society of Canada) is permitted to nominate up to four young scientists to attend the IAP Conference of Young Scientists, which will take place in Dalian, China, from September 10-12, 2009. The selected individuals will be invited to participate in some of these sessions as well as hold a one-day workshop on September 10, 2009, bringing together young scientists with entrepreneurs and young global leaders. Young scientists should therefore arrive in Dalian by Wednesday 9 September in the afternoon in order for the hosts to stage a welcome dinner.

If you would like to nominate someone to attend this Conference please fill out the attached form and return it to assistants [at] rsc.ca no later than Friday, March 13, 2009.听 Please note that all nominations must be directed to the RSC secretariat and RSC will then submit four nominations to IAP.

Please note nominated individuals should be bright, enthusiastic young people, from different areas, who have already demonstrated their leadership abilities, those with the communication skills and personality to represent science well when interacting with the outstanding leaders present at the event from other fields. We especially encourage the nomination of young and meritorious women scientists. It goes without saying that the nominee is available to travel to Dalian in September, if selected, and is fluent in English.
