Maclean's has just announced that 成人VR视频 Law's Kim Brooks (photo on left) has become one of 10 professors across the country to be selected for Canada's most prestigious university teaching awards, the 3M National Teaching Fellows. (see p. 41 of this PDF document)

Her subject, tax law, might not sound exciting to everyone. But Associate Professor Brooks' passion for the subject is contagious - and her student evaluations are loaded with praise for her ability to engage her pupils fully in the subject matter.

Kim Brooks likens learning tax law to seeing Bruce Springsteen in concert - and to drive the analogy home, she even uses his music and lyrics in her classes: "When you see him in concert, there's no fancy stuff, no glitz, no magic light and balloon show. But he just goes so hard, and that is a really fabulous thing to see. So I use him as an example to show what it is to be truly engaged in something." 聽Brooks clearly exemplifies that same commitment to tax law, and transmits her passion to her students.

About Professor Kim Brooks

One of Canada's leading tax scholars, Kim Brooks was appointed H. Heward Stikeman Chair in the Law of Taxation at 成人VR视频's Faculty of Law in 2007. She has received several teaching awards over the course of her academic career. Her primary research interests lie in the areas of corporate and international tax, and tax policy. Before moving to academia, Professor Brooks practiced as a tax lawyer with Stikeman Elliott LLP in their Toronto and London (UK) offices.
