Published: 26 April 2010

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Quebec, Kathleen Weil, today announced that Lori Weitzman has been appointed to the Court of Quebec, Criminal and Penal Division, in Montreal. She will be joining on the bench our former colleague, Justice Patrick Healy, BCL'81.

Lori Weitzman, BCL'84, LLB'85, holds a Master's degree in international affairs from Columbia (New York). She was admitted to the New York Bar in 1986 and to the Quebec Bar in 1987. She began her legal career with New York firm White & Case, and then became a criminal Crown Prosecutor in Montreal in 1987.

For over two decades, Lori Weitzman has generously contributed to the life of our Faculty, as a young alumna and as a member of the Faculty Advisory Board. One of our students' favourite lecturers, she has also worked closely with them, helping them hone their advocacy skills in preparation for criminal law moots such as the Sopinka.

Informed of Lori Weitzman's nomination, Dean Daniel Jutras immediately declared that "this appointment comes as a wonderful recognition of her talent as a criminal law expert and crown prosecutor."
