BCL/LLB students Fran莽ois Beaudry and Claude L茅vesque won this year鈥檚 provincial round of the Face 脿 Face oratorical contest, which was held last April 4 at Universit茅 Laval. Claude and Fran莽ois debatted two questions, which were the renewal of Canada鈥檚 military mission in Afghanistan and the promotion of English in highschools through immersion teaching. After two rounds of debates, the judges declared them the winners of the BCF Cup. According to Claude, the subjects put to debate in this year鈥檚 edition were 鈥渜uite varied鈥�. The Face 脿 Face oratorical contest is now ten years old. Each year, law student associations from Quebec universities and from Ottawa U. each send a team of two students to represent them. The teams debate contemporary issues and questions put to them, defending their positions before a bench of three judges who evaluate them on established criteria. The contest aims to help law students refine their pleading and debating skills.
