The ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Health Centre participates in Montreal mayor's mission to Paris
MUHC looks afield to explore approaches to biotechnology commercialization
Dr. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Health Centre (MUHC), had the pleasure of accompanying Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay to the Paris region on February 20, 21 and 22. Launched following an invitation from Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe, this mission brought together more than 40 representatives from Greater Montreal's academic, institutional and cultural sectors. The MUHC's objective was to explore innovative approaches for commercializing biotechnology in France in order to leverage the model and accelerate the transfer of medical technology and research in Montreal.
"Our delegation was impressed by the efforts undertaken by the City of Paris and major hospitals from l'ÃŽle de France to optimize economic and social gains from their clinical and research activities," stated Dr. Porter. "By creating a competitive health cluster, the MUHC and ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ will become a beacon for the medical and scientific community, not only in Quebec but also internationally," added Dr. Porter.
The MUHC reaped tremendous benefits from this mission; the dynamic nature and quality of the exchanges confirmed the importance of the university hospital construction projects for the City of Montreal.
Dr. Porter underscored that "university hospitals are veritable economic engines that will make the breadth of Quebec knowledge flourish. The City of Montreal is extremely fortunate to have a wealth of world-class expertise in health and research and it's our duty to build it into a true powerhouse."
The MUHC thanks the City of Montreal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and Montreal InVivo for their concerted efforts in making this mission a success.
