MUHC investigators receive major researcher awards

Published: 28 April 2005

This year, scientists from the Research Institute of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Health Centre received 23 salary awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Fonds de la Recherche en Santé Québec (FRSQ).

MUHC scientists performed exceptionally at the national level, receiving two of only 11 new investigator awards, and the renewal of a further two clinician scientist awards. In Quebec, 19 MUHC researchers gained FRSQ awards, including four prestigious Chercheur National awards — only ten of which were presented by the FRSQ in total.

"I am extremely pleased with the achievements of our researchers," said Dr. Emil Skamene, Scientific Director of the Research Institute of the MUHC. "This funding will help maintain the diverse and innovative research environment of our Institute." The awards will support investigators in research areas such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, medical genetics, neuroscience, infectious diseases, biostatistics and public health.

"Our research programs are intimately linked to the clinical practices of the MUHC," noted Dr. Arthur Porter, Executive Director of the MUHC. "The redevelopment of the MUHC on the Glen and Mountain campuses will further strengthen this valuable and award-winning continuum."

The MUHC would like to congratulate all our award-winning researchers:
