Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau honored at the Opening of the tribunals
On September 2, 2010, Emeritus Professeur Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau was honored at the Opening of the Montreal tribunals to mark the occasion of the 60th anniversary of his accession to the Bar.
Professeur Cr茅peau has dedicated his professional life to studying and developing Canadian civil law from a comparative law perspective, as well as to promoting the French-inspired civilian tradition, in Canada as well as internationally.
In 1965, Professor Cr茅peau was entrusted by the Qu茅bec government to reform the Civil Code, and 13 years later, he presented the National Assembly with a draft of a new civil code, accompanied by commentaries. It served as the framework for the governmental project that eventually became the Civil Code of Qu茅bec, which came into force on January 1, 1994.
"With our colleague Paul-Andr茅, we are celebrating a remarkable professional longevity paired with an extraordinary contribution to the life of the law in Quebec, Canada and abroad," said Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law. "For several generations of lawyers, Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau is the true embodiment of the rich legal culture that emerged in Quebec during the 20th century."
