The phenomenon of artistic migration to Paris: Schulich School of Music hosts International conference

The international conference Artistic Migration &ÌýIdentity: Paris 1870-1940Ìýtakes place April 27-29Ìýat the Schulich School of Music.Ìý

Coordinated by ProfessorÌýSteven Huebner and Post-Doctoral FellowÌýFederico Lazzaro, Ìýthe goal of the conference is to developÌýa comprehensive understanding of the issues related to artistic migration to Paris in this time period. ÌýÌýIt seeks toÌýexplore the phenomenon of artistic migration to Paris during the Third Republic from an interdisciplinary perspective (music, literature, and the visual arts), offering researchers from different fields the opportunity to compare their case studies and to formulate ideas that transcend their field of specialization. ResearchersÌýwill give presentations onÌýtopics in music, visual arts and literature, and there will be several concerts illustrating this time period. ÌýThe conference is made possible in part through the collaboration of Trio Hochelaga, Institute for the Public Life of Arts and Ideas (IPLAI), the Project «ÌýMusique et nation dans l’entre-deux-guerresÌý», and the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts.Ìý

The Ìýconference, which has been funded through a Connections Grant from SSHRC,Ìýwill be preceded by a study day on April 26th titled 'Silence is Golden: Surealism at 100 and the Place of Music in its History,'ÌýÌýcoordinated by Professors Jeremy Cox and Lloyd WhitsellÌý to be held in collaboration withÌýthe Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. ÌýConferenceÌýkeynote speakers will be Ihor Junyk,ÌýfromÌýTrent University, andÌýPascal Ory, ÌýfromÌýUniversité ParisÌý1, Panthéon-Sorbonne. Ìý
