Roy Heenan made Doctor of Law; Kim Brooks receives Durnford Award

On the morning of May 26, 2008, the Class of 2008 convocated. Among them was Roy Laucaud Heenan, OC, BA’57, BCL’60, who was awared a Doctor of Law honoris causa.

Roy Lacaud Heenan is among ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ’s most distinguished alumni. As the long-serving chairman of Heenan Blaikie, he has been largely responsible for the premier position of this law firm within the Canadian legal community. An adjunct professor at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ for more than 25 years, Heenan held the position of chair of the Faculty of Law’s Advisory Board when a program of transsystemic legal education was adopted and during the construction of the Gelber Law Library. Heenan is also the founding director and current chair of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, which has supported a nationwide network of fellows and scholars in a wide range of disciplines.

Associate Professor Kim Brooks was honoured by her students, who nominated her for the 2008 Durnford Teaching Excellence Award, citing first and foremost her dynamic and engaging teaching style. Kim Brooks is the H. Heward Stikeman Chair in Taxation Law.
