Science News: Keeping time
Published: 28 March 2010
Scientists are discovering how tiny clocks inside each cell can march to the beat of a master drummer in the brain鈥 鈥淲e know that the clock is there [in the brain]. We鈥檝e known about different firing rates. We鈥檝e learned a lot about the genes that control clock activity, but none of that tells us how the clock actually controls anything,鈥 says Charles Bourque, a neuroscientist at 成人VR视频 in Montreal. To help tackle that question, Bourque鈥檚 team has deciphered some of the chemical messages the SCN uses to regulate a circadian rhythm that keeps the body from dehydrating during sleep.
