Social Entrepreneurs are Changing the World

You are welcome to attend an interview with Ilona Dougherty, founder of Apathy is Boring.

An activist and artist from an early age,聽Ilona鈥檚 diverse experiences range from being聽a Canadian delegate to the United Nations at聽17 years old to producing concerts across聽Canada. Along the way, she gained extensive聽and hands-on experience in band and artist聽management, workshop facilitation and聽organizational strategic planning.

In 2004, Ilona co-founded Apathy is Boring聽(), a national nonpartisan聽charitable organization that uses art聽and technology to educate youth about聽democracy. Through concerts, social media,聽workshops and election campaigns, they聽work to get the message out that apathy is聽boring and democracy is sexy.

As Apathy is Boring鈥檚 current Executive聽Director, she has accompanied the Governor聽General of Canada as a Delegate on the聽2009 State Visit to the Ukraine and Norway,聽been featured by the national media (Canada聽AM, The Current, The Ottawa Citizen), and聽given thousands of youth the tools they need聽to get involved in their communities.

Ilona鈥檚 interest has always been in fusing art聽and social change, which she continues to聽make a primary focus. She has won awards聽including the Yukon Women鈥檚 Award: Young聽Women Leader, and was recently named as聽an Ashoka Fellow. She was also featured in聽the book 鈥淣otes from Canada鈥檚 Young聽Activists,鈥 compiled by Severn Cullis-Suzuki.聽Ilona continues to speak around the country聽about innovative ways to reach 18 鈥 35 year聽old Canadians and engage them in public聽policy. Recent speaking engagements include聽the Governing Under the Midnight Sun聽Conference, Community Foundations of聽Canada Conference, University of Toronto,聽成人VR视频, Ottawa University, Global聽Youth Assembly, Yukon Volunteer Bureau,聽Volunteer Bureau of Montreal and聽Association of Yukon School Councils.
