Tony Proudfoot (1949-2010)
The Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital regrets to inform you that Mr. Tony Proudfoot passed away on December 30, 2010 of ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, at the age of 61.聽聽 We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Proudfoot鈥檚 family and friends.Tony Proudfoot was an inspirational Montrealer.
聽An all star defensive back in the CFL, he played for the Montreal Alouettes (1971 to 1979) and the B.C. Lions (1980 to 1982). 聽He taught Physical Education at Dawson College for more than 30 years and was a sports broadcaster with CJAD, covering the Montreal Alouettes.聽 In 2006, he published 鈥淔irst and Goal: The CFL and the Pursuit of Excellence鈥.
Following the announcement of his diagnosis in June 2007, Mr. Proudfoot and his family established the Tony Proudfoot Fund at the ALS Society of Qu茅bec, to raise funds to support patient and family services at the ALS Society of Qu茅bec and the Research Fund for ALS at The Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, where Mr. Proudfoot was a patient under the care of Dr. Angela Genge, Director of the ALS Clinic.聽
聽Mr. Proudfoot courageously and eloquently brought ALS into the public eye, and the impact of his efforts have left a legacy that seeks to find answers into the causes of ALS and eliminate the suffering that it causes.
