 emerged\naround the globe. Described by some as the 'third' media sector\n

 itizens media\, they encompass community radio\, alternative\npublications
 \, online news services\, and many other forms of 'old'\nand 'new' media. 
 Even though their practices emerge outside the\nstate/business realm\, the
 ir development is heavily affected by\npolicy and regulation.\nWhat\, then
 \, are their policy needs? What is their policy\nenvironment? And in which
  ways have practitioners organized to\ninfluence policy? Arne Hintz will p
 oint to both enabling and\nobstructive policy examples\, discuss a policy 
 agenda for the\nsector\, and examine the strategies and practices of polic
 y advocacy\nby media activists. He will thus uncover relations\, connects 
 and\ndisconnects between grassroots media and global governance.\n
