The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Marie Manikis has received the 2022 Canadian Association of Law Teachers Scholarly Paper Award. Her paper 鈥淩ecognising State Blame in Sentencing: A Communicative and Relational Framework鈥 (Cambridge Law Journal, forthcoming) won the annual competition. Aimed at recognizing the work of scholars in the first seven years of their academic appointment, this prize is awarded to the author of a paper that contributes substantially to legal literature.聽

The O鈥橞rien Graduate Fellowships were established in 2005 through a very generous gift from David O鈥橞rien for outstanding Masters or Doctoral students studying in the area of human rights and legal pluralism in the Faculty of Law, 成人VR视频. 成人VR视频鈥檚 graduate programs in law are the most extensive in Canada. Courses draw upon the civilian and common law traditions, but also include diverse legal traditions, legal theory, international law, environmental law, health law, human rights law, comparative private and public law, and air and space law.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Fran莽ois Cr茅peau, O.C., O.Q., F.R.S.C., Ad. E., has been appointed officer of the Ordre national du Qu茅bec. He will be handed his medal by Premier Fran莽ois Legault during a ceremony at the National Assembly on 22 June.聽聽

Admission to the Ordre national du Qu茅bec is the highest distinction conferred by the provincial government. Members are eminent individuals who, through their achievements, values, and ideals, have influenced Quebec鈥檚 growth and contributed to its renown.聽

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Johanne Poirier has received the 2022 John W. Durnford Award for Teaching Excellence. Named in honour of the late professor and former dean John W. Durnford (BCL'52), and conferred by students, this award each year recognizes a law professor鈥檚 exceptional pedagogy. Professor Poirier received the award during the Law Convocation ceremony on 26 May 2022 for the second time, having won it in 2019.聽聽

On 26 May, James (Sa鈥檏e鈥檍) Youngblood Henderson, F.R.S.C., will receive a Doctor of Laws (LLD), honoris causa, from 成人VR视频, and give the commencement address at the 2022 Law Spring convocation ceremony.

Sa鈥檏e鈥檍 Henderson is an internationally recognized authority in Indigenous knowledge, heritage, jurisprudence, constitutional rights, and human rights. He is the research director of the Native Law Centre of Canada and teaches Aboriginal law at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Tina Piper has been appointed associate dean (academic) and that Professor Darren Rosenblum has been appointed associate dean (graduate studies).

They will begin two-year terms on 1 September 2022 and 1 August 2022, respectively. They are replacing Professor Rosalie Jukier and Professor Andrea Bjorklund, who will have completed three years in these roles.
