After winning the 2016-2017 成人VR视频 Concerto Competition and completing his Graduate Diploma in Performance at Schulich, harpist Antoine Malette-Ch茅nier is set to appear with the 成人VR视频 Symphony Orchestra next Friday and Saturday night. To learn more about the work he鈥檒l be performing and his experiences learning music in school and more, we spoke to Malette-Ch茅nier in a recent email exchange.

In today鈥檚 music industry, many artists find that they have to diversify their sources of income in order to make a living 鈥 some may teach, repair instruments or work in music media. To reflect this, many post-secondary music schools are diversifying their curriculums to offer classes that teach skills from these areas 鈥 such as the courses that make up the new Music Entrepreneurship minor at the Schulich School of Music.

The Schulich School of Music is pleased to announce the prestigious jury for the inaugural edition of the Graham Sommer Competition for Young Composers. The new national competition for Canadian composers under the age of 35 is the gift of the late Dr. Graham Sommer, an alumnus of 成人VR视频鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine and an accomplished pianist and devoted music lover. Five composers will be chosen to create new works for piano quintet, earning prizes ranging from $5,000-$15,000 as well as a concert premiere at the Schulich School of Music on September 29, 2018.

The late Dr. Graham Sommer, an alumnus of 成人VR视频鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine as well as an accomplished pianist and ardent music lover, made a gift to create a biennial competition for young Canadian composers, with a focus on chamber music.

Professor Brenda Ravenscroft is the new Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Formerly聽Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen鈥檚 University, and Professor of Music Theory and Analysis, Prof. Ravenscroft began her mandate at Schulich in July of 2017.聽Prof. Ravenscroft taught Music Theory at 成人VR视频鈥檚 Faculty of Music from 1991 to 1993, and has maintained close ties with 成人VR视频 colleagues through research and teaching interests.
