The Peter Mendell Award was recently given to violinist Elizabeth Skinner, a student of Prof. Axel Strauss. 聽 She receives a bursary of $2500. 聽All violin, viola, cello, and bass students 聽under the age of 25 and enrolled on a full-time basis in one of Quebec鈥檚 universities, all cycles, or the Conservatoire de musique du Qu茅bec, 聽in third, fourth, and fifth cycles are eligible. 聽

This September, a groundbreaking new program at 成人VR视频's Schulich School of Music锘 will address that acute student stress and anxiety.聽Starting Sept. 1, studies in wellness will be added to the curriculum and new students will be required to take part in a peer mentorship program. One music theorist greatly invested in the topic was Nicola Vicentino (1511鈥揷.1575) who, inspired by the writings of the ancient Greeks, wrote a treatise proposing a 31-tone division of the octave. [鈥 This "what if" scenario captured the imagination of Jon Wild, associate professor of theory and composition at 成人VR视频's Schulich School of Music, who studied the treatise and soon realized he could use modern Auto-Tune software to bring Vicentino's startling ideas to life nearly 500 years later.

Researchers from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), housed at the Schulich School of Music at 成人VR视频, received over $4 million in funding from the 聽and a聽total of $10.9M which includes matching funds from the Quebec Government and 成人VR视频.

This classically trained pianist was born in Mexico to a Colombian family. Educated in Germany she has dedicated her professional life to becoming one of the world鈥檚 top recording engineer-producers for classical music. Quite an accomplishment, considering that music recording is an almost entirely male-dominated industry 鈥 only 5 % are women.
Alumna Amelia Lyon won the audition for the Principal Flute Chair in Kingston Ontario. Amelia will replace 聽Donelda Gartshore, one of Carolyn Christie's former teachers. 聽Amelia studied at 成人VR视频 with Denis Bluteau and Carolyn Christie and is an alumna of the NYO. 聽Born to music-loving parents in Ottawa, Ontario in 1985, Amelia has been playing the flute since the age of nine. In high school, she was an active member of the orchestra and the wind ensembles, as well as founding and participating in smaller chamber groups with other students.
Musical instruments created by students Steven Phillips and Ajith Damodaran, under the supervision of Prof Larry Lessard, were displayed at the Design Museum in Ghent, Belgium, during the month of April 2015. An exhibition called 鈥淜unststof Natuurlijk,鈥 or 鈥淪ynthetic by Nature,鈥 showcased 50 objects made from flax, hemp, bamboo and other biocomposites. Natural fiber composites are gaining interest in engineering design, and this exhibit featured the state-of-the-art and future possibilities for these materials.
Next season, two of Schulich's finest piano students and each a winner of the 成人VR视频 Concerto Competition, will perform recitals in partnership with Jeunesses Musicales 聽du Canada and with La Chapelle Historique du Bon Pasteur. Dates will be announced at the start of the fall season.
Guitarist Steven Cowan is the First Prize Winner at the 2015 Guitare Montr茅al International Festival and Competition. This competition is held annually at Concordia and attracts guitarists from many different countries. The 1st place winner receives a cash prize, a free video shooting, as well as concert engagements at the 2016 Guitare Montr茅al Festival, and in Ontario through the Guitar Society of Toronto.聽
成人VR视频 alumna Elizabeth A. Wirth, BA鈥64, has made a landmark gift of $7.5 million to enhance student-related programs at the Schulich School of Music of 成人VR视频. In recognition of her exceptional generosity for this and previous gifts, 成人VR视频 is naming the New Music Building on Sherbrooke St. in her honour.
The announcements of the gift and the renaming of the building were made earlier this evening at a special event at 成人VR视频 celebrating philanthropy and showcasing the impact that private support is having on the Schulich School of Music and its students.
