Positron Emission Tomography (PET) enables non-invasive visualization of biochemical processes, signals and transformations in vivo and has found a unique place in the arsenal of molecular imaging modalities. PET has become a powerful tool in oncology and neurology for in vivo imaging of metabolism, neurotransmission systems and misfolded protein accumulation implicated in a variety of oncological and neurodegenerative diseases. 聽This seminar will cover design and synthetic strategies for the development聽of PET probes based on small molecules as well as peptides and proteins. An overview of the well-established clinically used radioligands will be followed by a highlight of the current research at the radiochemistry lab of the MNI focused on the development of novel radioligands and improvements of radiolabeling procedures.
