Friday, March 14, 2014 10:00
Sherbrooke 688
688 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 3R1, CA
A cinematic journey of discovery across the Muslim world, narrated by Waldemar Januszczak, revealing awe-inspiring architecture and art objects that evoke the history of Islam. We meet local historians and experts along the way, as well as an array of weavers, calligraphers, potters and jewellers. The discoveries include the stunning architecture of Samarkand; the surreal mud mosques of Djenn茅, Mali; the inspired urban planning of the聽 ancient Iranian city of Isfahan and the world鈥檚 first great (and possibly greatest) mosque in the Syrian capital of Damascus. The result is a stimulating introduction to a set of globally significant aesthetic traditions.
