Making Sense of Imperfect Tests: Latent Class Analysis in C. difficile Diagnostics

Speaker(s): Dr. Nandini Dendukuri,听Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiologist, MUHC,听Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, 成人VR视频

Dr. Vivian Loo, MD, M.Sc, FRCP,听Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiologist, MUHC,听Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, 成人VR视频

Dr. Jeremy Li, MD,听Medical Microbiology PGY-6 at University of Manitoba

At the end of the presentation, the audience will:

  1. Explain why no single diagnostic test can serve as a perfect reference standard for Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), and recognize the consequences for patient care.
  2. Describe in simple terms how latent class analysis helps evaluate test accuracy when no gold standard exists, and how it was applied in this CDI study.
  3. Apply the study鈥檚 findings to clinical decision-making, by understanding how combining NAAT with toxin detection (especially SIMOA assays) can improve diagnostic strategies, while still requiring clinical judgment.
