The Desautels Management Achievement Awards

Members of the Desautels community came together in February to celebrate this year’s recipients of the Desautels Management Achievement Awards (DMAA), Mitch Garber (BA’86), CEO, Caesars Acquisition Corporation, and Norman Jaskolka (BCom’76, DPA’78), President - Aldo Group International, The Aldo Group Inc.

About the DMAA

Established in 1979, this event is organized annually by Desautels undergraduate students to honour Canadian business leaders who have made a significant contribution to Canadian society, both through their success in business and their involvement in the community.

The DMAA luncheon was held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on February 10, 2017.

“The achievements of today’s honorees took years of effort, and undoubtedly the mastery of many skills, but what sets their achievements apart from the ordinary is that they also took courage. Courage is something we as students don’t learn in our classes… where we do learn about the importance of courage, however, is at events like this.”

-Rachel Burke, President of the MUS

“I’m very humbled by this award because it is voted for and awarded by students I don't know.”

“Speaking about success is easy, speaking about failure is difficult…the idea of being rejected and keep getting off the ground is important. In business, the unexpected will happen to you.”

-Mitch Garber, BA'86
CEO, Caesars Acquisition Company

“This is a pinnacle moment of my career, a true privilege. The Desautels Faculty of Management was a springboard of my career and of my life.”

“My message is about perseverance…Know yourself and appreciate what you like to do. Understand yourself and don't compare yourself to others. True happiness and true power lie in understanding yourself, accepting yourself and having confidence in yourself.”

-Norman Jaskolka, BCom'76, DPA'78
President - Aldo Group International, The Aldo Group Inc.
