Companies can tap into the talent pipeline by engaging more with universities
Finding talent is a challenge for many businesses, and some of the most common approaches are not necessarily the best ones. The ‘Post and Pray’ strategy banks on posting a job description, and hoping the best candidates will find you. The ‘Reach-out and Pray’ strategy involves a manager leveraging their network to find candidates who might be suitable. But since most hiring managers are not human resources professionals, their network won’t necessarily land them the best candidate either. In an article in Medium.com, Desautels Prof. Shoeb Hosain encourages managers to get involved with talent earlier in their trajectory. By funding case competitions, and volunteering to be a guest lecturer at universities, they can help build their company’s brand before in-demand talent is even in the workforce.
