Curiosity is a practice, not a personality trait

Published: 16 March 2026

Curiosity is not聽innate,聽it聽is a practice that you can learn and refine. 鈥淚n leadership circles, curiosity is often treated as a personality trait,鈥 Prof. Karl Moore writes聽in聽Forbes.com. 鈥淵ou either have an inquiring聽mind,聽or you do not. And if you do not, that is simply how you are.鈥澛犅

In his book Curiosity and I,聽O鈥橬ell聽Agossa聽(BCom鈥20) challenges that assumption. 鈥淎 curious person is not just someone who asks a lot of questions,鈥 he told Moore. It is someone who has learned to notice their own reactions, pause for a moment, and then choose how to respond instead of reacting on autopilot.鈥澛燗gossa聽adds:聽鈥淭o practice curiosity is to聽observe聽the changes that are happening inside of us. As聽we experience聽life, and聽take action accordingly as we go around the world as we experience life, and take action accordingly as we go around the world."聽
