Proposed tariffs could deepen North American economic strain

Amid rising economic tensions between the U.S. and Canada, Assistant Professor Preetika Joshi warns that President Donald Trump鈥檚 threat to impose 100 per cent tariffs could trigger far鈥憆eaching consequences on both sides of the border. Joshi notes that while the move is framed as a deterrent against Canada serving as a conduit for Chinese goods, the economic damage would not be one鈥憇ided.

American consumers, she explains, would feel the impact just as sharply as Canadian businesses. 鈥淵es,聽he鈥檚聽hurting Canadian businesses, of course, but聽he鈥檚聽hurting U.S. consumers more. He聽has to聽know this,鈥 Joshi told Durham Radio News.聽
