The reason behind the rankings – Prof. John-Paul Ferguson explains how FT MBA ranking metrics are calculated
Global MBA rankings are dominated by American Universities – but why? In this year’s Financial Times Global MBA rankings, Desautels ranked 90th, below a number of U.S. schools with lower research output. One reason that top American business schools do so well is high post-graduation salaries – but this metric doesn’t tell the whole story, according to Prof. John-Paul Ferguson, the Academic Director of Desautels’ MBA program.
Cost of living is higher in financial centres like New York, and some MBA students are mostly seeking a salary upgrade at a bank or corporation where they already work.
At Desautels, 70 per cent of MBA students come from outside of North America. Many stay after they graduate but establishing yourself in a new country is a more daunting task than returning to your old job, with a new title.
