鈥楽kiplagging鈥 can save you money while you travel, but airlines don鈥檛 approve
Airfares don鈥檛 always make a lot of sense. For example, a flight from Montreal to Calgary can cost more than a flight from Montreal to Vancouver that has a stop in Calgary. More and more air travelers have been buying a multi-leg ticket, and disembarking at one of the stops along the way. It鈥檚 called skiplagging. 鈥淭his has been around for a long time, but it is becoming more common, especially among Gen Zs,鈥 says Prof. Karl Moore. 鈥淵ou have to travel carry-on only, or your bags will go on without you.鈥 But it can save you money, and it鈥檚 often against the fine print of the ticket contract, but enforcing against is not currently a major priority. As post-Covid travel has boomed, airlines have had to focus on restoring their operational capabilities and profitability after the disruption to travel that was caused by the pandemic.
