Desautels alumna advocates for low carbon energy in Washington, DC
Abigail Hunter (BCom鈥16) wants to usher in the clean energy revolution. She represents the Government of Quebec as an attach茅e in Washington, DC, where she works to help lawmakers understand the benefits of working with Qu茅bec 鈥 like how its hydroelectricity and energy storage can supplement less predictable solar and wind energy generation. While at Desautels, Hunter learned about impact investing, social enterprise and advancing ethical, social and governance standards.
Desautels BCom students win Case Competition
Congratulations to BCom students Idir Hamrioui, Marc-Antoine Millaire, L茅o Tousignant and Anthony Ladal, who won the 2022 Van Berkom Small Cap Case Competition hosted by JMSB March 25 and 26. In the final round the team of four was up against 8 other teams including another from Desautels. The team keeps up a winning tradition, as a delegation from Desautels won last year's edition of the competition.
Desautels Commerce student Haris Elezovic named to U Sports All-Rookie team
First-year Bachelor of Commerce Haris Elezovic helped the 成人VR视频 Redbirds win this year鈥檚 Quebec men鈥檚 basketball championship, and was named to U Sports All-Rookie team for his efforts. In his first year with the team, Elezovic averaged 11.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and was the only player from a Quebec university to earn the All-Rookie honour.
Desautels management student Clement Secchi wins four gold medals at U Sports Swimming Championships
Desautels鈥 Clement Secchi excelled at the 2022 U Sports Swimming Championships, earning four gold medals and two silvers. Secchi led the 成人VR视频 Redbirds to a third-place overall finish, and set three national swimming records in the process. The fourth-year management student from was named swimmer of the year at the event, and was the most decorated individual male swimmer of 2022.

Tackling delinquent payments using machine learning
Delinquent payments are a major challenge for small businesses 鈥 but collecting each individual debt is a difficult and thankless task. To make it easier, Dimitri Raziev (BCom鈥10) co-founded Kolleno. This fintech start-up helps businesses manage their accounts receivable by sending customers email and text reminders to settle unpaid bills, and directing them toward a payment portal.

DMCC takes third place at Financial Open
On February 5, the Desautels Management Competition Committee took third place at the 14th annual Financial Open, the largest Finance and Accounting base case competition in Eastern Canada. The BCom students competed against their peers from 14 other universities, securing 4 podiums, including first in financial accounting and stock market simulation, good for third place overall.

Desautels alumnus David Laidley donates $5 million to create new Laidley Centre for Business Ethics
Thanks to alumnus David Laidley (BCom鈥67), the Desautels Faculty of Management will soon unveil a Laidley Centre for Business Ethics. Endowed by Laidley鈥檚 gift of $5 million, the Centre will carve out a space for 成人VR视频 researchers across disciplines to advance ethics in the workplace through academic programming, leading-edge research, and public engagement.
Driven by empathy
Midway through her doctoral thesis research at 成人VR视频, Anita Nowak (BCom鈥97, PhD鈥11) discovered a deep passion for supporting social and environmental innovators. With the encouragement of former faculty member Dr. Michael Hoechsmann, she zeroed in on empathy as the driving force for entrepreneurial success and developed a 鈥淧edagogy of Empathic聽Action.鈥 This early research continues to inform her work as a global expert in empathy and adjunct lecturer at Desautels.
