Each event in this series will feature two HBHL faculty recruits whose research areas provide an interesting contrast or intersection for discussion.

Aparna Suvrathan is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Research in Neuroscience at 成人VR视频. She is affiliated with the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Department of Pediatrics and the Research Institute of the 成人VR视频 Health Centre. She received her PhD at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore, India, where she investigated the role of the amygdala in Fragile X syndrome and in affective disorders. Aparna then did postdoctoral research at Stanford University, where her work described the timing rules for plasticity in the cerebellum. Her lab鈥檚 focus is on the mouse cerebellum, where they investigate how synaptic properties and plasticity shape circuit function and behaviour, both in health and in disease.

Rachel Rabin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at 成人VR视频 and a Researcher at the Douglas聽Research Centre.聽Her research program is dedicated to elucidating the clinical, cognitive and neural consequences of addictive substances, particularly cannabis, with the overarching goal of informing the development of more effective treatments for people with substance use disorders. Her聽lab takes a multimodal approach, integrating comprehensive clinical and cognitive assessments with neuroimaging (MRI, PET) and biological measures. Using controlled abstinence paradigms, they examine the longitudinal trajectory of SUDs to identify predictors of relapse and map the time-course of recovery. This work not only reveals potential therapeutic targets but also pinpoints optimal intervention windows, with direct implications for improving treatment strategies.聽聽
