Published: 19 August 2020

Congratulations to Yasmine Coovadia, M.Sc., who recently published her master鈥檚 thesis work in American Journal of Physiology 鈥 Heart and Circulatory Physiology.

Yasmine鈥檚 paper is entitled 鈥Sex differences in dynamic blood pressure regulation: beat-by-beat responses to muscle sympathetic nerve activity鈥.

Using microneurography to directly measure the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, Yasmine demonstrated that women respond to bursts of sympathetic activity with more sustained increases in blood pressure than men, and likewise maintain blood pressure during sympathetic quiescence more effectively than men.

Yasmine鈥檚 paper is available online ahead of print at听.

Yasmine Coovadia will be commencing her doctoral studies in the CHARLab under Dr. Charlotte Usselman's supervision starting in September 2020.
