Join GEEC (Graduate Engineering Equity Committee) for an engaging and informative panel to deepen your understanding on the challenges faced by women in graduate studies, research, and academia. The discussion will touch upon current social settings, the change of landscape over the years, and future prospects for advancement.

Panel Speakers
Nia Fernandez, Ph.D.
Nia Fernandez, Ph.D. (they/them) is an award-winning scholar, speaker, artist, mentor, and advocate for social justice in STEM. Dr. Fernandez majored in Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering, earning their doctorate in the field of regenerative medicine in 2022. During their studies, they also held multiple leadership roles driving mental health and EDI advocacy at 成人VR视频. In 2023, they voyaged to Antarctica as a member of Homeward Bound, an international network of women and non-binary STEM professionals collaborating toward the UN sustainable development goals. In there current position heading the Office of Engineering Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Advancement (E-IDEA), Dr. Fernandez and their team support students, staff, and faculty to shift the culture of Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Panning through applied principles of inclusive leadership, community building, and collective action.
Prof. Ipek T眉relli
Prof. T眉relli is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Architectures of Spatial Justice at 成人VR视频. Her research interests include low-income housing, participatory design, civil protest and urban design, and campus landscapes. She is Coordinator of the research group on Democracy, Space, and Technology under the Lin Centre. She also serves as Senator as well as a MAUT (成人VR视频 Association of University Teachers) Council Member.
Prof. No茅mi-Manuelle Dorval Courchesne
Prof. Dorval Courchesne is an Associate Profess of Chemical Engineering at 成人VR视频 and the Canada Research Chair in Biologically Derived Materials. She completed her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at MIT. Her research interests focus on developing functional protein-based materials for environmental and biomedical applications. She is also involved in various research initiatives and has received awards in recognition of her research excellence and leadership in the field of Chemical Engineering.
Prof. Stephanie Loeb
Prof. Loeb is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at 成人VR视频. She holds a Ph.D. from Yale University, where she explored the environmental virology, her research focuses on materials science and environmental engineering. She is an active participant in the Society of Women Engineers and is passionate about making STEM accessible to all with an interest.
