Ahsan Alam is an Associate Professor of Medicine and a staff nephrologist and member of the multi-organ transplant program at the MUHC. He is also a member of the Research Institute of the MUHC. His research includes the epidemiologic study of patients with chronic kidney disease, kidney transplantation, or receiving dialysis. He has participated in numerous clinical studies and trials in nephrology. He has a specific research interest in the complications and treatment of patients with polycystic kidney disease, and in 2015 he established and currently directs the MUHC Polycystic Kidney Disease clinic at the MUHC.

- Applying deep learning techniques to image analysis for risk prediction in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
- Understanding the disease progression, complications and treatment of patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
- Studying cardiovascular outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease.
