Current research:
Dr. Poenaru heads the CommiSur Lab, a patient-centered and patient-partnered research platform focused on the communication processes between patients, healthcare providers, and technological innovation. His current areas of academic interest are patient-centered care, the application of AI, VR, and mobile health in healthcare communication, global research capacity and equity in surgical care provision for children in low-resource settings, and global medical education.
