Genevi猫ve Bois named finalist for Emerging Practitioner Award from the Coll猫ge des M茅decins du Qu茅bec

Genevi猫ve Bois, physician at the Department of Family Medicine鈥檚 Whapmagoostui clinic in James Bay, is named finalist for the Emerging Practitioner Award from the Coll猫ge des M茅decins du Qu茅bec (CMQ). The overall winners will be announced during a ceremony on April 11, 2024.

The CMQ Award in the Emerging Practitioner category is given to a physician who has been in practice for less than 10 years and who has made a significant contribution in their community to the advancement of the medical practice.

The doctor who "moves mountains鈥

Thanks to Dr. Bois, women in remote areas have better access to reproductive health care. When she began her practice in 2017, Dr. Bois settled in Whapmagoostui, the northernmost Cree community in Eeyou Itschee, Northern Quebec. In recent years, Dr. Bois' commitment to Indigenous health and cultural safety has been evident as she has collaborated with Indigenous communities to improve training, including at the Universit茅 de Montr茅al's Faculty of Medicine.

Highly involved in her community,听Dr. Bois combines teaching and management responsibilities with her clinical activities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her efforts to prevent, contain and manage outbreaks was of crucial importance to her community.

Advocating equity and social justice in all her actions, Dr. Bois campaigns for women's reproductive health rights. She defends the right to abortion and better access to reproductive health care throughout Quebec. When she's not up north, she's with patients at the Centre de sant茅 des femmes de Montr茅al and the Clinique des femmes de l'Outaouais.

President-designate of the Board of Directors of the Coll猫ge qu茅b茅cois des m茅decins de famille, she has also been a member of the Choisir avec soin steering committee since its inception.

Recognized by her peers and her community as a force of nature, Dr. Genevi猫ve Bois has been described as one who "moves mountains for her patients". Her committed leadership, courage and dedication make her a role model for her colleagues and a driving force for social change.

Each year, the Coll猫ge des M茅decins du Qu茅bec honours physicians who have distinguished themselves by making remarkable contributions to the development and influence of the profession, to the advancement of medical knowledge or to the well-being of the community.
