Zhiwei Li has his sights set on a career exploring the microbiome in the research division of a food or biotech company, and his current research, under the supervision of Professor Jennifer Ronholm, is helping him pave the road to get there.
​"We use animal models and next-generation sequencing techniques to characterize the interactions between foodborne pathogens and host gut microbiome," Li explains who has worked in collaboration with collaboration with the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Research Centre on Complex Traits and Health Canada. "Food microbiology is an expansive field encompassing fermentation, bacterial pathogens, and microbiome in various environments. It's a diverse microbiological world that continues to amaze me."​â¶Ä‹
Zhiwei Li originates from Qingdao, China, received a B.Sc. Food Science from Jiangnan University.
