Abstract
This presentation examines the implications of human-caused climate change for in/security in Canada. It first outlines the impacts of climate change on five areas of security in Canada: human security, economic threats, Arctic threats, humanitarian crises at home and abroad, and increased risk of domestic conflict. I then argue that despite the material threats it poses, climate change has not been successfully 鈥榮ecuritized鈥� due to the intersections of Canada鈥檚 distinct regional interests, electoral system, and partisan ideologies. It concludes by outlining two distinct potential futures for climate-related in/security in Canada.
