Biostatistics (M.Sc.)

Program Description

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biostatistics (Thesis) offered by the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences is a research-intensive program that emphasizes challenging and rigorous learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in literature review, data analysis, and report writing to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.

Unique Program Features

  • Beginning with coursework in mathematical statistics and statistical inference, students will also gain experience in applied areas such as statistical methods for epidemiology, generalized linear models, survival analysis, longitudinal data, and clinical trials.
  • The Department's Faculty members possess expertise in survival analysis, non-parametric and semi-parametric modelling, analysis of longitudinal data, causal inference, statistical computing, classification and regression trees, methods for evaluating diagnostic accuracy, Bayesian statistics in medicine, statistical methods for clinical trials, and the design and analysis of epidemiologic studies.
  • Graduates are well-placed to either continue in a Ph.D. program, to work in academic research in statistics or medicine, or to work in the pharmaceutical industry and government.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
