Russian and Slavic Studies (PhD)

Program Description

The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Russian and Slavic Studies offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes scholarly and in-depth learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in novel thinking, literature synthesis, and academic writing to pursue professional opportunities in academia or industry.

Unique Program Features

  • Students benefit from being part of a small cohort, allowing a great deal of personal attention, an atmosphere of collegiality, and a close-knit intellectual community;
  • Faculty members specialize in 19th and 20th century Russian literature and culture, including the Russian Novel, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Russian Modernism, Russian Romanticism, High Stalinist Culture, Post-Soviet culture, cultural mythology, intertextuality, and women's studies;
  • Students may receive funding to participate in conferences and are encouraged to publish the results of their ongoing research;
  • The Department benefits from collaboration with 成人VR视频's Department of Art History and Communication Studies, World Cinemas, and the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF);
  • Graduates from the program pursue careers teaching in universities (Canada and abroad) as well as pursuing careers in related fields.

University-Level Admission Requirements

  • An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
  • English-language proficiency
