Professor Shariff engages in research involving the intersection of education and law and has developed an umbrella research foundation in this area relating to sexual violence, cyberbullying (technology facilitated violence) and areas of gender based and patriarchic forms of violence, intersectionality; human rights (international and national); international law and policy. She has advised the Federal and Provincial governments including Parliamentary Committees on proposed legislation; Federal Senate; Cyberintimidation committees in Quebec Ministry and was invited to a panel on cyber hate at the United Nations Headquarters.
