Ask the IHSE: Crowdsourcing questions for a new mentorship podcast
So much of our knowledge about research, scholarship, teaching, and career development - or the 'how to' of research and scholarship in Health Sciences Education and beyond - is tacit, implicit, and likely hard-earned. While the sharing of this knowledge, including lessons learned from navigating, thriving, and failing within one's academic career is often one of the main benefits of mentorship, not all trainees and/or academics have access to a mentor, or, at times, the advice received from mentors and friends in their network can vary greatly.
Through our own collective experiences of figuring out the 'how to' of navigating relationships, publishing, conferences, and other academic topics on our own, or through conversations with each other, supervisors, mentors, and friends, we've identified that there is a need for equitable access to the wealth of experience and expertise of what it means to be a researcher and academic at the IHSE and beyond. Thus, Ask 5 People, an unscripted and informal video podcast aimed at generating an equitable and public facing bank of expertise of what it means to participate in, engage with, and build community within HSE and beyond, has been created.
As the crux of the podcast is to ask questions that we have all, at some point, asked or been asked about being in the academic, we come to you with a small request: what are your questions? The hope of our time in this meeting is to crowdsource from our IHSE community - what have you asked or been asked?
