Keynote Synopsis
In a time of intensifying climate and biodiversity crises, this keynote highlights why Indigenous-led conservation is increasingly recognized as essential. Grounded in relational worldviews that center the responsibilities between land, water, and people, Indigenous leadership reframes conservation from a technical process into a holistic, culturally grounded practice. This approach not only strengthens ecological resilience but also supports national and international climate and biodiversity commitments鈥攐ffering a powerful pathway toward a more balanced and hopeful environmental future.
About the Speaker
Dahti Tsetso is a leading voice in Indigenous-led conservation across the Northwest Territories and Canada. In her previous role as Deputy Director of the Indigenous Leadership Initiative (ILI), she coordinated the collaborative negotiations that led to the NWT: Our Land for the Future Agreement (2024), uniting 22 Indigenous governments, the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Government of Canada, and private partners to establish one of the world鈥檚 largest Indigenous-led land conservation trusts.
Her leadership also contributed to the Ed茅hzh铆e Establishment Agreement (2018), creating a 14,218 km虏 protected area recognized under both Canadian and Dehcho Dene law, as well as the development of the regional Dehcho K鈥櫭﹉odi stewardship and guardian program.
