It honours the legacy of British neurologi st John Hughlings Jackson (1835-1911) who pioneered the development of neu rology as a medical specialty. A reception will follow for registered atte ndees.\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\nBehaviour\, Brain Computation\, and Evolutio n\n\nAbstract: Using recent experimental work on cephalopod camouflage and reptilian sleep as examples\, Gilles Laurent will illustrate the importan ce of combining not only technical approaches\, but also diverse perspecti ves\, to understand the design and operation of brains.\n\nGilles Laurent \n\n Gilles Laurent grew up in Morocco and France and holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine as well as a PhD in Neuroethology. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship and a Locke Research Fellowship of the Royal Soci ety at the University of Cambridge (UK)\, he joined the faculty of the Bio logy Division at the California Institute of Technology in 1990\, where he spent 20 years. In 2009\, he became a Director at the Max Planck Institut e for Brain Research in Frankfurt\, Germany\, where he is currently based. \n\nGilles Laurent’s research focuses on identifying fundamental principle s of brain function and circuit dynamics\, using a broad range of experime ntal and computational approaches. His early work on insect olfaction reve aled low-dimensional neural manifolds as organizing principles of coding s paces in the brain. His research interests span olfactory computation\, mo tor control\, vision (including texture perception and camouflage)\, sleep \, and brain evolution.\n DTSTART:20261015T200000Z DTEND:20261015T210000Z LOCATION:Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre\, The Neuro SUMMARY:Hughlings Jackson Lecture 2026: Behaviour\, Brain Computation\, and Evolution URL:/internalmedres/channels/event/hughlings-jackson-l ecture-2026-behaviour-brain-computation-and-evolution-371073 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
