Dean Robert Leckey receives Advocatus Emeritus distinction

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Dean Robert Leckey, Samuel Gale Professor, has received the Barreau du Qu茅bec鈥檚 Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) distinction.

This honorary title is awarded to members of the Quebec Bar who have distinguished themselves through a remarkable career, outstanding contributions to the profession, or constructive community work. Dean Leckey joins Faculty members Adelle Blackett, Fran莽ois Cr茅peau, Fabien G茅linas, Pierre-Gabriel Jobin, Lara Khoury, and Ren茅 Provost, as well as Wainwright Librarian Daniel Boyer, in holding this distinction.

Dean Leckey joined the Faculty in 2006, where he teaches and researches in constitutional law, family law, and comparative law. From 2014 to 2016, he served as director of the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. On 1 July 2016, he began a five-year term as dean of the Faculty of Law. In December 2020, 成人VR视频鈥檚 Board of Governors reappointed him for a second five-year term.

Dean Leckey has received the Prix de la Fondation du Barreau du Qu茅bec (2007), the Canadian Association of Law Teachers鈥 Scholarly Paper Prize (2009), the John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award (2009), the Canada Prize of the International Academy of Comparative Law (2010), the Principal鈥檚 Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2010), and the Principal鈥檚 Change-Maker Prize for his public engagement through media (2020).

In 2014, he was selected for membership in the Global Young Academy; in 2017, he was elected an associate member of the International Academy of Comparative Law; and in 2020, he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada鈥檚 College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. The president of the Council of Canadian Law Deans, he is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, an advocate of the Barreau du Qu茅bec, and a member of the Barreau de Montr茅al鈥檚 Comit茅 d鈥橝cc猫s 脿 la justice en langue anglaise.

鈥淭he Barreau鈥檚 distinction underscores Dean Leckey鈥檚 contributions to the legal profession in Montreal and across Quebec,鈥 said Professor Daniel Weinstock, Associate Dean (Research) and Katharine A. Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy. 鈥淗is long record of service, significant scholarly output, and work to uphold justice through his research and teaching are all recognized through this newly awarded title.鈥
